Flexographic printing & converting |
There is no more cost effective way of adding value to your labels than with the 'FOILFLEX' Cold Foil system, available on all Focus machine models.
Incorporating foil decoration to any graphic design adds value, enhances quality and provides a new dimension for graphic designers. In the past, converters have been limited to hot foil systems with press speed limitations, or expensive off line solutions. The new FOILFLEX Cold Foil system can be regarded as an integral part of the printing process, requiring only a U.V. dryer, eliminating speed restrictions and providing high definition foil decoration.

Operational Feaures
The material cost of cold foil is comparable with traditional hot foil laminate films, but without the additional investment of specialist tooling or 'off line' equipment.
Using a standard flexographic process, the foil design is simply printed, using a special U.V- reactive adhesive, in place of ink. Foil is laminated onto the substrate, before passing through the U.V dryer. The U.V dryer cures the adhesive and the waste foil is then removed in line, leaving the highly decorative design. This system will provide a seamless production solution, allowing you to offer your customer real added value & quality.

Flexible Dies for Hot Foil Applications
In addition to the FOILFLEX Rotary Cold Foiling system, Focus also offers a unique and extremely cost efficient system for Rotary Hot Foiling. UniFlex flexible dies, developed by the DEI Group, USA in combination with specially developed magnetic cylinders from RotoMetrics, provide the perfect solution for high quality, high volume hot-foil stamping - without the expense of solid, engraved brass dies. Copper and steel are bonded together using ultra high temperature and pressure to form a thin plate, flexible die with a ferrous surface that can be mounted onto a magnetic base and a non-ferrous/ferromagnetic surface that can be engraved into.
These dies can be ordered in the usual way, by supplying your required design to your UniFlex die supplier. The engraved dies can quickly and easily be mounted onto a magnetic cylinder and placed into a standard die station on the press. The magnetic cylinder is then electrically or oil heated to the correct operating temperature, ready for in-line hot foil stamping. The same magnetic cylinder can be used for any foiling design, which has a corresponding image repeat length. Dies can even be changed on press, while the cylinder is hot, provided that proper safety equipment is used.
A high quality transfer of foil, with clean edges and no loss of colour brilliance, even at high production speeds, is easily achievable using UniFlex dies. In addition, very fine detail and even half tones can be foil stamped, due to greatly advanced etching technology.
Compared with traditional rotary hot foil stamping, the UniFlex system enables faster turn around times and greatly reduced costs, allowing you to offer your customer value added products at affordable prices.
