In this area of the Focus Web we will provide cover frequently asked questions. We realise there may be more questions than answers and so if your question isn't featured here, please contact us through our Web enquiry page. Other FAQ: Flexographic printing | Textile printing

Q) How do I start to make my own printing plates.

A) Firstly you will need some form of art work in which the individual colours can be separated, From these a negative is made of each colour. You can then make plates from the Negative. A good Reprographic house will get you to the Negative stage. With a modest budget, Computer, Laser Printer , Camera & Developer or Image Setter most companies can produce their own Artwork, negatives & Printing Plates.

Q) What types of machines of available.

A) We have a variety of systems from Compact Tower systems for small & medium size companies through to sophisticated Flowline Systems for Reprographic houses and large companies with volume polymer plate usage. We usually have 3 to 4 different Platemaking systems in stock for demonstration in our showroom.

Q) What about Service, Parts, Training.

A) Focus have factory trained service staff, offer training from our showroom or 'On site' during installation. Most parts are kept in stock for immediate dispatch.

Q) Solvent or Water washout systems, which is best.

A) This depends on the end application. For Letterpress and Offset we recommend a water washout system and we supply a range Photopolymer Plate from 'JET' for these applications.

For Flexographic printing we still strongly recommend Solvent washout systems for the highest quality results. A new range of friendly Solvents are readily available and we will be happy to advise on suppliers who offer a full recycling service. We also supply 'TOK' Flexographic Plate.

New types of water wash Flexo Plates are becoming available, but the washout systems tend to be complicated requiring filtration systems to extract the polymer material. Consider your exact requirements carefully, If Print quality is paramount and you produce a lot of Process work or fine detail print , Water based flexo plates may not be the solution. We also supply 'TOK' Water based Flexographic Plate. Please ask for advice before you commit to any specific washout system.
